Mary Ann Roberts-Oswestry
« on: Friday 06 December 19 18:37 GMT (UK) »
I'm in correspondence with someone on Ancestry in regards to a Mary Ann Roberts in my Tree.I have her listed in my Tree as born in Oswestry in c 1885.She married my relative Watkin T Davies at Oswestry in 1908.The person writing to me has purchased their Marriage Certificate which shows her Father to be a John Roberts a Plasterer.I am struggling to find her with those details in the Census before she was married? In the 1939 Register her Birth is given as 19/06/1884.

Regards
William Russell Jones.

If the 1939 details are correct, this would be her birth

In 1891 there is a Mary Ann Roberts age 6 from Oswestry with a father John who is a painter.  Looks likely.

The same household in 1901, has her mother as a widow, and elder brother, also a John, as a painter.

Thanks for your replies.I will ask the lady on Ancestry whether she has possibly misread the Occupation of John her father.

I don’t think she need have misread.
People even now are often painters and plasterers.
Perhaps doing more of one thing than another at different times.

Added, following that family,   John died before the 1901.
Wife Sarah still alive 1901 & 1911.
2 sons with her both single
Mary Ann is with her 1901 but not 1911 which is circumstantial support if yours married in 1908.
