Joseph McDowell and wife Elizabeth m/s Carlisle lived at 4 Glasgow Street, Ardrossan, he was a Harbour Foreman, and died in 1934, at Western Infirmary, Glasgow, I think that Elizabeth died in 1944....trying to find out if they had any children.....

JOSEPH MCDOWELL   Born about 1869   Died 65   1934   Hillhead

I guess this is him on the 1911 census you can pay to view on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

JOSEPH MCDOWELL   1911   age 38   Ardrossan    Ayr

I do not see a marriage in Scotland for those names?

Thanks Colin.....yes thats him, I have him on the 1901  census, living at 9 Harbour Lane, Ardrossan, with his mother Anne McDowell, and sister Susannah Clarke, and his death certificate, on Scotlands People.....we believe that Joseph and wife Elizabeth were from Co. Down, Ireland, and most probably married there....I think that they would have come to Scotland about 1900, although there is no sign of Elizabeth in 1901, and may have had children born there.......

It doesn't say on the 1901, but interestingly on the 1911 census of Scotland, he is still given as Single, aged 38....so he may have married later in life, and maybe didn't have any children......

Ah, that's very interesting Rosie, thanks.....yes that's our tree....married 1920, so he would have been about 48...…. I have her as dieing in 1944, in Ireland, but not sure if that is correct....

Not seeing a death for Elizabeth McDowell in Ireland 1944 that matches ? I seen one 1946 but she is a spinster ..No deaths in SP using both names Carlisle/McDowell ..if she was born about the same time as Joseph I would say she would have been to old to have had any  children
