For some reason, I have her death as 16th April 1944 in Co. Down.....I don't know where I got it from, and think it may be incorrect......

Have you looked at the records on the Irish site I think this is her father's death 1912
John Carlisle age 61 Moneyslane Downpatrick  ..Maybe if you can find his marriage it will give you a better idea when she was born

Following Death Intimation extracted from  ayrshire-roots.co.uk  . It appears to support the premise of no children as it does not indicate “father of ..”

McDowell   Joseph   05 01 1934   Western Infirmary, Glasgow.   D   Husband of Elizabeth Carlise. 4, Glasgow Street, Ardrossan

N.B. The date indicated is the date of publication of the local newspaper, NOT the occurrence.

Thanks Rosie, Colin, and q98.....it looks increasingly unlikely that Joseph and Elizabeth had any children.....I am now looking into Joseph's siblings, Susannah 1876-1928, William 1871-,  Robert 1866-, and possibly William John 1864-....we don't think that the brothers ever came to Scotland....Susannah we know quite a bit about, she was my wife's Great Grandmother and lived in Ardrossan............

Thanks Colin, yes that's them.....I have a William John McDowell born Ireland 1863 / 64, and married to an Elizabeth BLACK....they are on the 1911 census, with quite a few children, given as boarders living with a Joseph Black......however, I now see that there are several deaths for William John McDowell's, most notably one in 1865 at Banbridge Co. Down......

From the details Rosie found for the 1920 marriage, wonder if this is Elizabeth's birth in 1889 in Moneylane. Same Townland as the marriage.
