If you can find out her area of birth you might find a baptism, I do believe if a child wasn't baptised before it went into a workhouse it most surely was within the  workhouse

Wonder why she was given up for adoption if her parents were married?

Hi all,

I think Marjorie (MMN Elsey) may be a different girl.

Freebmd has this marriage: Dec 1939 Spilsby 7a 2301 Marjorie A Cuppleditch marries Cyril W Ranshaw.

Your Maggie's marriage to George H Meears is Sep 1942 Grimsby 7a 1813. Something odd about the entry I don't quite understand but looks like he might have also been known as George H Whiteman??

Regards, Tony.

Added: Marjorie Cuppleditch (Ranshaw) and Maggie Coupland (Meears) found separately on 1939 register.
Hoare, Milsted, Peacock, Herbert, Crampin, McIlroy, Holden, Hilton, Fawcett.

I wonder if her marriage cert might be a good idea as Mr Meears seems to have another name jt appears from registration

What about workhouse records?

Apparently George Meears was adopted & his real name was indeed Whiteman. Unless Cuppleditch was a previous adopted name?

Hi Everyone,
I'm desperately trying to find information for a friend about her Grandmother. She was adopted in 1928 by George & Maude Coupland. From Mablethorpe workhouse apparently. Maggie was born on 11th November 1920. Little is known about her sadly. She is in the 1939 census as Maggie Margaret Coupland in , Lincolnshire. It's not known where Maggie was born.
Thank you.
