What they are saying is that they will do a 10 year search for a reasonably small amount of money.  A 10 year manual search is fairly time consuming.

 As I understand it ( and I have used them ), they will provide us with every entry in every quarter in all of the 10 years.

It is then up to us to decide whether or not we want to order a certificate.


Nobody can guarantee whether an entry can be found or not.

The service I have had from them has been exemplary, but they are not magicians.

This is just my opinion -
but it seems to me -  that the people who seem the most enamored with this brilliant new website -  have very few postings on Rootschat!!

Rootschat is a terrific site where people HELP each other - you're welcome to use wharever means are available to you - but please do us a favour - talk about it somewhere else .....!

Hi Gazza & Brisbane Billy -  How come you only found Rootschat after you found them   Perhaps you should have tried posting your queries on here

They searched 5 years either side to find a birth for me. That's 10 years and 40 binders for £ 14.95.

That's probably about £4 of online credits worth (even though most people wouldn't need a 10 year search) and the local registry offices will search 2 years either side for free if you know where the event took place.  Then, of course, there's all the free indexes coming online and that's not to mention Rootschatters

are able to manually search the Civil Registration Indexes for England and Wales from 1837 - 2002

Nobody can be permanently base there - there is only the one government office that holds the original GRO Civil Registration Indexes "The Family Records Centre" and it is a public building with no restriction on access to anybody.  Most searches of the GRO indexes are manual (even if we are using 1837online) as there is no complete computerised index as yet.
