Baptism in Hythe for a Henry Brydges BIRON c.1836?
« on: Wednesday 18 December 19 18:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
I wonder whether some kind person who is privy to the Hythe PR's could tell me whether there is a baptismal entry for a Henry Brydges (apparently!) BIRON in about the year 1836, as he appears aged 15 in the 1851 Census, born in Hythe.
A sighting of who his parents were would be a huge help to me.
Many thanks,
Keith

Thanks so much for that very rapid response on here, Hepburn and Christine!
Did you mean that 5 year old Henry is living with his family in Lympne in the 1841 Census, Hepburn?
And I wonder what a job as a clerk entailed in quite a small place in the 1830's - could this have meant parish clerk, do you think?

The clergydatabase has the appointment of an Edwin Biron as Curate of Saltwood, St. Leonard Hythe Chapel on 12 May 1835

In  October 1840 the Reverend Edwin Biron A.M, Hythe was appointed to the living of Lympne (Canterbury Journal, 17 Oct 1840).

There is an entry in the Probate Calendar :

Biron , The Reverend Edwin
effects under £4000, resworn June 1879 under £3000

Administration of the effects of the Reverend Edwin Biron , late of Lympne in the County of Kent , clerk , who died 25 Jan 1877 at Lympne, was granted to Robert John Biron , of 2 Johnson's Buildings Temple Middlesex , Esquire , Barrister at Law , the son  and one of the next of kin.

Note this is an administration only , ie there was no will.

Wow! Hanes Teulu, that explains the "clerk" description perfectly. Not a full blown vicar yet, but had become one, of Lympne, by the time of the 1851 Census for Hythe.   Fascinating stuff.
I've also now come across an 1828 Dublin marriage licence for an Edwin BIRON (Rev) and an Elizabeth VINY.
In that same 1851 Census it says Edwin was born in Dublin, though Elizabeth seems to be from Liverpool.  I presume, though I am guessing a bit, that this marriage took place in Ireland before they came  to Kent, therefore

Posts madly crossing in the ether...more very exciting info!
Perhaps by 1851 this son (if he was) Robert had moved away from the family home by 1851.  Certainly another son, the Henry Brydges BIRON  for whom this thread was initially started, was at the age of 15 a scholar at Kings School Canterbury in the 1851 Census.  My head is spinning somewhat with all this rush of new details on the BIRON family...
