German - 1792 marriage register - help reading names

Hello,

I'm attaching an entry from a marriage register of Plate, Schwerin, Mecklenburg 1792.

I can read the groom as 'Johann Julius Ihde', please can anyone help with the details of the bride, I can see it is 'Magdalene Sophie', then is it 'geb Korken', followed by (word I can't read) Wilken' ?

I understand 'geboren' before the maiden name, is the next part 'verwitwet' widowed and then Wilken would be that married name?  Or is it something else entirely?

Hi Lisa,

I see the same as you. I think it is simply "verwitwete" split over 2 sentences. The scan is unclear - it looks like "tt" instead of a single "t", but maybe they wrote it like that back then.
(So, yes, she was married to someone named Wilken and was then widowed.)

I am not 100% sure about the maiden name. Looking at the other "K"s in the snippet, I am tending a little towards Rorken, rather than Korken...

Is there another "R" in there anywhere for comparison?

yes, I can see what you mean, it does look more like Rorken.

I couldn't find a name clearly beginning with R, but on the following page in the register, the groom's surname looks like 'Rork', similar to my example but more like an R than a K.

I tried to find this example (and another) via a search to see how it had been transcribed, but alas . . .  no luck, I think it might have taken me several hours to find.

¹ Hauswirth was a name for a farmer who  used to lease land
² "en" was an supplement on names, meaning from the family

ie. Magdalene Sophie Korken = Magdalene Sophie from the Kork family
Catharina Ihden = Catharina from the Ihde family
