Hi Max
can i ask where  you found the medical record
i ve looked for that so far we ve found his woundings,
his medal card,
no service record or medical record or pension,
we know by his service nohe enlisted around 1907,
served in india as he has the dehli dunbar,
he s also on the lewis roll of honours,
though he was born there he was born Glasgow
sent to lewis as a child after his mother died
which is where he learned the pipes,

Is that a car on the other side of the road?  If so it looks earlier than ‘39.

i m not to sure about the newspaper theory if it was
surely it would have been a newpaper around the area of pangbourne
and how did the photo arrive in greenock,
it came out of an old suitcase belonging to my aunt
who to the best of my knowledge never left greenock.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

I would agree there is a likeness, neat moustache on both.  Hard to say it the same though!

The date that Sgt NMacKay arrived at 34 CCS is the start day of the massive German offensive.  The action is given a detailed write up in the 7 Seaforth's diary.  WO 95/1765/5.   At the time they were in trenches in Gouzeaucourt.  1 SAFA had various posts along the Fins to Nurlu road.  34 CCS was at Marchelepot some way to the south of Nurlu.
The map/image at the link has the trench area to the east centre, Fins and Nurlu are to be seen to the west.  Marchelepot is another 15 miles to the south west of Nurlu.
