John WITCOMB ca 1750 to Frome by 1772, possibly from Kingweston
« on: Thursday 26 December 19 09:38 GMT (UK) »
John Witcomb married Betsey Millard in Frome in 1772 botp with 3 children born 1777,1779 and 1791 and baptised at the Zion Independent Frome

Locating John's baptism is proving elusive with the only one around the right time being in Kingweston to Thomas(?) and Mary in 1751. There is no marriage or burial of this John in Kingweston.

Can anyone provide any additional clues?

Have you discounted the John baptised at Mells 1739/40.

Is there an age at death on the burial of 'your John'

On Freereg both of the Parish - two witness names.
Betsy MILLARDJohn WITCOMB   Marriage   07 Sep 1772   Somerset   Frome: St John the Baptist

I note the baptisms of Mary, Thomas & John at the ZION INDEPENDENT,FROME,SOMERSET

I can only see two births in the County and none elswhwere.

John WITCOMB   Baptism   11 Jan 1740   Somerset   Mells : St Andrew : father William
He may have remained there as there was a burial in 1812 age 72 (Slightly out but)

John WITCOMB   Baptism   * * 1751   Somerset   Kingweston : All Saints : Parents Thomas & Mary
The one you mention but maybe a burial 28 Aug 1750  but was this an earlier child. The parents seem to fit.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Several other possibilities:

John Witcombe son of John and Hannah baptised at Frome 1760 but aged 9.

John Witcom son of James and Mary, Kilmersdon 1735

John Whetcombe son of Richard and Elizabeth, Taunton 1734

John Witcombe son of Thomas and Elizabeth, Kingweston 1732

The first is obviously more likely, but unless you know his age, marriage in his 40s can't be ruled out.

Thanks all, unfortunately I have no age for John as there is no obvious burial in Frome while there is an 1812  burial in Mells which corresponds to a John born in 1745
