Cambridge family - County Cork
« on: Friday 27 December 19 15:00 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I'd be grateful for any help if anyone knows anything of the Cambridge family from around Cork? I've come to a dead end and some of my information doesn't correlate or add up and the dates don't quite tie up. The family have links in and around Cecilstown, Butlerstown, Clonakilty, Youghal areas.

My Great Grandfather was John Jonas Cambridge who married (Ellen) Louisa Hadnett on 01/02/1894.  As far as I can work out his father was Jonas Cambridge 1839/1840 - 1906. I think Jonas married twice: first time to Anne Bibby on 30/08/1864 and had 3 kids. Then 2nd time to Elizabeth / Lizzie Forbes on 18/05/1878.  He is listed as a widower on his 2nd marriage documents, but he had a son from his first marriage; Thomas Cambridge 10/10/1878 to 1898 and its listed that his mother is present at death (Anne Cambridge - nee Bibby).  And I can't find any record of her death before the time of his remarriage. I understand divorce didnt happen - would there by any other options or have I got the wrong people? Did they anul the marriage if someone left?  I know there was definately a Bibby that married into the family. They are all Church of Ireland.

The other issue is a relative has given me info that John Jonas had a brother; Richard Cambridge  who married Annie McCarthy on 03/09/1896. I can't find any birth certificate for him, but often I've noted the names can be different.

I'd love to get to the bottom of this as my uncle who is in his 80s knows little about the background to his family. Many thanks for any help or advice.

Thomas Cambridge, son of Jonas & Anne, born 1877 not 1878-

Have more to post later which may sort this all out.

Thank you.
I think I had the wrong Jonas:  My Jonas who married Anne Bibby had kids; Sarah Anne, 1875; William, 1883; John, 1867; Mary 1881; Thomas 1878-1898.
But there doesn't seem to be any trace of a birth or death cert for Jonas.
I've wasted so many hours trying to trace these people!!
