Ann Pritchard born 1815 Gloucestershire
« on: Sunday 29 December 19 17:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I’m trying to learn more about Ann Pritchard / possibly Griffin mother of Fanny Bailey who was born 1815 in Glos. Trying to find her marriage to Thomas Griffin and also to William Bailey. However her children to Thomas Griffin may have been illegitimate. Parishes mentioned are Oxenhall, Longhope, Redmarley, Newent, if this helps.
Thank you!

William appears to have been baptised 29 Oct 1824, so either he married someone a lot older, or there's a bit of confusion about relationships/generations

Looking for stepson Charles Griffin in 1851, you find these three together lodging in Oxenhall

John H Griffin    7 - b Redmarley
Charles Griffin    5 - b Redmarley
Thomas Griffin    2 - b Oxenhall

John Henry Griffin
Baptism    18 Feb 1844 Longhope, Gloucestershire
Father:    John Griffin, servant
Mother:    Anne Griffin

John Henry marries in Newent in 1868 - William Bailey is a witness

Mabel you are a genius!!! Thank you so much for that information it really is helpful and fills in so many gaps!!

On IGI I came across a record stating that Fanny (b1852) was illegitimate, there seemed to be some confusion about whether her surname was Griffin or Bailey.

I would also agree that it isn’t certain what her first husbands name was.

But that is fabulous and I really appreciate the effort you have made to give me this information. Thank you!

Both Fanny and her brother William were registered as Griffins but are Baileys on 1861, although born before the marriage.  Charles remains a Griffin, which suggested those two are William's (the boy's name is a hint too!)

The arrangements on 1851 also are interesting. Ann and son William are with her mother. She's listed as still married. The other Griffin sons are boarded out elsewhere
