Thank you for the information.

Would you please provide me with the source of this record.  The family emigrated to NZ 2 Feb 1874, then to Australia in 1887.  The family then returned to NZ in 1904, less Caroline Josephine.  Between 1887 and 1904 they returned to Denmark where Stella Clara was born 12 Aug 1887.  This must be the Immigration entry for their return from Denmark.  Any other information on this voyage would be appreciated.

Earlier I stated that he had qualified by residence it was actually by freehold.

Occupation, Clerk.
Particulars of Qualification Freehold, Selection 20v, Par of Formantine.
Date when claim received by Electoral Registrar. 5th Nov 1901.

Looks like Alfred was working in Chillagoe but qualified to be on the Cairns Electoral District Roll because he held land freehold in the Parish of Formantine near Kuranda.

The following is a old map of The Parish of Formantine and the 20v Selection is clearly indicated as 174 acres under the names of A GORDON and A. G. STEVENS. 

The map had been folded many times, Goto the second folded box from the top right to find 20V
