Dr Ada Jackson-where am I going wrong?
« on: Thursday 02 January 20 10:29 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help?

I'm researching Dr Ada Jackson who ran a practice in Hull at 255 Anlaby Rd. Now, I have her date of birth, and I thought that she died in 1942, but now I'm still finding mention of her in the Hull Daily Mail in 1944.
I followed a link to a burial, but it's not her (Eastern Cemetery) and now I'm floundering.  Where am I going wrong? I have approached it from various angles on Find My Past and I'm stuck.

Ada M (possibly Maria) Jackson.  6th Aug 1869

She was still living at 255 Anlaby Rd with Gwenllian Bevan on the 1939 register but after that I can't find her. She had a sister, Miss Florence Jackson (b1884)

I've tried wildcards but I can't help thinking that either I'm doing something terribly wrong in my searches, or FindMyPast isn't worth the money.

Any help gratefully recd.

Kate

Have you restricted the death to Hull? Do you know where she died?

It's a common name and she may have retired from the area or gone into practise elsewhere.

I haven't, I did initially and then tried a general search. I thought that with her being a Dr she might have been easier to research!

What's confused me is the mention of her in Hull in 1944. Have even checked the migration lists...nada!

Have you considered the death registration in Hull - March quarter 1956 - Ada Jackson aged 86  :-\

Does the article actually say she's alive in 1944 or an anecdote, reference of her life?

She should have a will or probate have you looked for that?

Thank you, if it's 255 Anlaby Rd that's her for sure. Yes the quotes in the Hull Daily Mail were regarding an event in 1944 so that makes sense.

so, can I ask is Find My Past not worth the money because I can't find that death anywhere...I'm not a total novice but it just seems to hinder me at every turn!

again thank you.
