The two John Reeds you have could very well be the same person. There is no record of a baptism for him in 1888 but there is one for 1892. It was quite common for a child to be baptised some time after the birth. If that is the case the dates are as follows:
St Andrew's church, Deal.
18/1/1892 John Reed                s/o John & Sarah Reed      Labourer  8, West Street
13/1/1894  Mary Ann Read  (born 7/1/1894)                     Labourer  Western Road
  1/1/1896  Phoebe Read                                                  Labourer  Western Road

Thank you.  I think we were thinking along the sane lines but it can be quite mind boggling when a birth is registered some time after the actual birth.

The 1911 census shows John as aged 19, so born c1892.  The parents appear to have married in 1891.

What you mean is that you think he was baptised, not registered, some time after his birth.  This John REED was born in 1892 0r late 1891, his parents have no children with them on the 1891 census.  He was quite a bit younger than Beatrice so has probably just altered his birth year to close the gap a little.

Yes your correct and most likely right re age gap.  I believe John was the eldest child, followed by phoebe reed 1895 and Sarah Reed 1909. 

I've had trouble identifying Sarah Ann Marsh 1873, John reeds partner.  her mother's maiden name is Saville.  A phoebe Saville married a William Marsh and they had Sarah Ann Marsh 1873

Volume2aPage784.  Found the 1891, 1911 and 1939 census for Sarah Ann Marsh but on the 1881 census her name is down as Sally which has completely thrown me.

I checked the gro for Sarah Ann Marsh 1873 and all that adds up with phoebe Saville mmn and 1873 birth registered.  All details of 1911 and 1939 census match up.  Unsure of her parents info at the moment as I am of John reed 1872.  All I have so far is his dad was William Reed.
