Hi ,
The evidence is a news paper artical from 1876 wednesbury staffs,
i think when writing fathers occupation they might have put his major occupation, as on his marriage cert in 1845, its says he was a stonemason then.
thanks for your help
Brian

Apologies in advance, and I may be "muddying" the waters, but:

Do we have two people answering to Lisle Rule - one in Newcastle on Tyne area, and one in West Bromwich  :-\

1845 marriage - Lisle Rule and Frances Hand -  West Bromwich

I can see a daughter, Esther (Rowell) registered 1848 in West Bromwich - mmn = Hand.  Daughter Mary Rule - 1855 West Bromwich - mmn = Hand.  Death registration the same quarter.  FreeBMD shows Elizabeth Rule - West Bromwich 1850 - but GRO doesn't have the entry to confirm mmn.

Military records - IF Lisle was born 1815, then wasn't he just a bit too old to still be a soldier in 1854/5, and certainly too old in 1875.

And Stonemason in 1845 (marriage to Frances) via soldier to cab driver in 1876  :-\

Very sorry if I've added to the confusion  :'(

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.
He/she who never made a mistake, never made anything.
Archbell - anywhere, any date
Kendall - WRY
Milner - WRY
Appleyard - WRY

Hello,

Dont apologize,  when i hit a wall with a search i put it out to everyone and see what comes up.
I only listen to Facts  that i can qualify with documentation.
I do not have a date of birth for Delisle Rule- yet , so do not know his age on marriage cert's.
thanks for your help

1841 census
Buxton Street, Newcastle upon Tyne
Elizth. Rowell 57 Ind.
Thomas Rowell 29 lab
George Rowell 25 lab
Lisle Rowell 20 lab

All born in Northumberland. [Piece/845: Book/8:Folio/11:Page Number/15]

Ages of Elizabeth and Thomas are not rounded down as they were supposed to be in 1841, but looking at the whole page I think that was a lapse on the part of the enumerator, as all other adults have ages ending in 0 or 5.
So Lisle's age is not necessarily 20.

The following household is of Esther Hair and two children.

Esther Rowell married Bartholomew Hair at Morpeth in 1825:

You will note that the vicar writes her name Rowell. Esther signs Rull, and one witness signs John Rouels

Esther Rouel d/o John and Elizabeth née Wilson was baptised at Hartburn in 1804.
