Polish births
« on: Saturday 11 January 20 09:48 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out where Bronislaw Szymczyk was born on 1st August 1925 in Poland. He was  in England by 1954 where he married and he died in Oldham August 1988.

he died in Oldham August 1988.

His death certificate should give his place of birth, if it was known to the informant. But of course it may just say 'Poland'.

Did he naturalise British? Any certificate may give his place of birth.

English marriage and death certs do not give place of birth. Where would I find naturalisation documents?

National archives have some, have had a quick look, no one obvious but the spelling could have always been slightly different.

I tried Lancashire in search but perhaps other searches/spellings could be tried.
He was possibly in Bedlington in 1952?

English marriage and death certs do not give place of birth.

I'm afraid this is incorrect. On English/Welsh death certificates from 1969 onwards there is provision for stating place and date of birth.

What Bookbox says is true; unfortunately foreign births are only recorded by country, not by town/city, so the death cert will only state Poland.

What was Bronislaw's father's name?  You should find it on his marriage certificate.  I ask because there are time restrictions, usually 100 years, on Polish BMD records, and it may be easier to search Polish records for his father.

Did he have siblings who came over here as well or to the US?  Did he remarry in Oldham?

Kind regards

This may be along shot. Did he have any children and were they baptised by a Polish priest?  My wife has a Polish background, her parents both Polish settled in England after the war.  My wife's baptism certificate has a wealth of information on it including where her parents were born and even her grandparents names.  I realize this information may have been entered on the priest's whim but it could be another route to follow up on.

Thank you for the ideas. I am researching for a friend who needs a Polish passport. Like most people the info is scattered among the family here and there.
