1875 Redenhall with Harleston WAYE family from Okehampton Devon
« on: Sunday 12 January 20 18:23 GMT (UK) »
In 1875 Henry John Waye (Okehampton Devon) wife Elizabeth (nee Stoneman) and two under 3Yrs daughters (both born Devon) turn up in Depwade with birth of son John James, and baptism at Redenhall with Harleston. Then they turn up in London two years later.

John Henry was a Cabinet maker. I can't see and family links with Norfolk, they are established Devon families. Any thoughts on why they would be there, is there a furniture industry? Are there local records in the area I might research 1874 - 1876?

Thx. Paul

I can't help with "why Norfolk" but suspect life wasn't good, given Henry is in Clerkenwell Prison in 1881 and all the children scattered around relatives

Also looks like he was in trouble in 1869, Henry WAYE of Okehampton charged with being in pursuit of game on the Glebe at Okehampton.

Thx Maddys52, btw what search tool did you use to find that information please? Is that a subscription account? I am just learning about the next level of deeper searching.

My pleasure Fredsboy.

I use British Library Newspapers to search for newspaper items - I have free access on-line through my Australian National Library Card. I'm sure there must be a similar access where you are, maybe ask at your local library? The major genealogy subscription sites have newspaper searches as well, though you have to pay for those.

In case you're interested, here is the whole item. I looked for further info but unfortunately couldn't find any reports of the outcome of the trial.
