"Came from Strabane Railway" seems rather odd until it refers to ancestor working in connection with the railway there, coming to Strabane in connection with the railway, etc.?

The railway from Strabane & Letterkenny didn't open until 1909-

There was an earlier one from Strabane to Stranorlar which started in 1863-

And, apparently, 1845 - see. https://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/yourplaceandmine/tyrone/A716690.shtml although 1847 is suggested at http://www.westtyronehistory.com/public_transport.htm

Just in case anyone else is looking for Thomas - he was born Thomas Floyd to Patrick Floyd and Anne Carlin. He was baptised on 3 June 1855 in the parish of Donaghmore in County Donegal. The sponsors were Hugh Maguire and Catharine Carlin. I have searched the register for several years before and after this date but can't find any other children or Patrick and Anne's marriage. Catharine Carlin - I presume this is a sister - married Charles Gallen in Donaghmore on 19 April 1852.

Saw this thread on Google and decided to sign up as I've just found your Thomas in my (our?) tree.

If you don't have them already, Patrick Flood's parents are Edward Flood and Ann Doherty, according to his death certificate. Your Thomas Flood would be my 1×cousin 4×removed, making us 4×cousins 1×removed.

Patrick's brother, also named "Thomas Flood", was married to Jane McCormick, and they are my 3×grandparents. He died on 5 May 1878, aged 54, after which his surviving family went to Spring Valley, Illinois.

Patrick Flood's death certificate on ScotlandsPeople says that he was a coal dealer and the widower of Anna Carlin, dying from chronic bronchitis on 5 December 1879, aged 53.

Another child of Edward and Ann Doherty Flood, John, died 11 January 1868 from nephritis in Glasgow, aged 46.

Thank you so much for this. At the start of December I had decided to finally admit defeat and just write up what I knew about the Floods / Floyds. I never actually considered that more of the family came over from Ireland. I have looked at the records on Scotland's People that you mention and found a few more. From Ann McGinchy's (nee Floyd) marriage certificate, I see that Ann Carlin was also known as Nancy - also my first name although mine came from my maternal grandmother's line. If I can help or you find anything else please let me know. I have 1871 census records now.

Just in case you don't already have it, in the same Donaghmore register as Thomas Floyd baptised on 3 June 1855, a Patrick Floyd was baptised on 22 March 1847 for parents Patrick [Floyd] and Anne Carlin, the witnesses were Daniel Carlin and Mary Carlin:

Thanks Gaffy - I did find Patrick earlier. I also now know there was at least another child called Neil born around 1853 but there must be more from the large gaps in dates. I have read the Donaghmore register a few times but haven't found any other children so I suspect they moved around for work.
