Nicholas Michael Carter
« on: Thursday 16 January 20 09:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am attempting to trace the above person (who's name we are not 100%) with very little information. Maybe lived in royton.

What I understand is that he served at a army base  Redgrave, Suffolk at a German Prisoner of War camp and possibly Knettishall nr Thetford , and the rank of Sergeant ?  - Royal Engineers. Around 1947.

Would anyone know where to start in finding the base and who had been based their around 1947?

Thanks

There was a person by that name, born 1907, died 1974, Sutton St Nicholas, Lincolnshire. About the right age for being an Army Sergeant in 1947.

Hi Kloumann

I too found this one, however I do not seem to able to find anything else on the person to investigate further if this could be a potential.

Another post about the same person

Perhaps this thread would be better? Hope it's the right person!
A number of mentions in the London Gazette starting in 1964 of a Nicholas Michael Carter, potato salesman, of Gayton, near Kings Lynn. Not far from area of death.

Thank you for the information. I honestly do not know much about this person, the death record is the only match I could find for the name given. A DNA ancestry test for the person I am researching for does show a possible link to carters from Norfolk but 4 generations back, I am attempting to trace back down.

Would anyone be able to see electoral for the address listed in the gazette? Is this information available?

Thanks
