From your 1861 census, David Cruickshank married Mary Thomson in 1858 www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTJX-1JS 1881 census for them www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KMDP-XJD

Mary Thomson was previously married to a Robert Fullerton going by daughter Primrose's entry www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYG9-845

A small tree for them here www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:1:MWFN-XH9

Can't see daughter Jessie's 1859 birth on Family Search but should show on SP.

Jessie is consistent with her birthyear as 1850/1851 on the 1861 - 1901 censuses.  However - in 1871 she is boarding with an Ann Thomson b 1846 in Logie Buchan

I think David Cruickshank may have been previously married

Wonder whether David Cruickshank was previously married but can't find a match in 1851

The Fullerton entry in 1851 raises questions www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/590267dee9379091b1cec0d9/primrose-fullerton-1851-aberdeenshire-aberdeen-1844-?locale=en

Mary Thomson was already widowed.

A daughter Janet Fullerton aged 1...could this be Jessie Cruickshank in 1861?

Who was the dad of John and Isabella Fullerton from 1861?

Monica

ADDED: The 1858 marriage cert would help confirm the marital status of David and Mary. David may not have been married before 1858.

How about this 1871 entry

Jessie Cruickshank aged 20 b Inverurie - reeler in factory in lodgings in Aberdeen

Aberdeen St Nicholas ED 25 Page 24 Line 22

This might be a better entry for Jessie at home in 1871 with David and Mary Cruickshank (need to check transcript for more details) www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VBLD-GGL

Carole, I have be re-reading the details.

Jessie Smith shows a birth place of Inverurie in 1881 from what you posted. You also found a possible entry for a Jessie with that birth place in 1871 with a maiden name of Cruickshank.

Not sure how things stand now re the family of David and Mary (Thomson). With their Jessie showing at home in 1871, she clearly shows a birth place of Aberdeen, as she did in 1861.

Need verification now of hard details from Jessie and David Smith's marriage cert don't we...all roads always lead back to SP  ;)
