I'm not seeing a death for him in the Providence Vital Records.

Edit to Add-

I skimmed through  the death notices in The Providence Evening Press from 27 Sept.- 29 Oct. 1880 and didn't see him mentioned.

The Google com papers aren't searchable and I didn't read the other pages to see if some sort of accident was mentioned, so that's a possibility. Each edition is only 4 pages long with death notices on page 3.
