Parish of Powderbach
« on: Sunday 19 January 20 10:10 GMT (UK) »
Seeking an opinion please.

I am looking for the marriage of Richard PERKIN/S & Sarah UNKNOWN that precedes the first birth/baptism I can locate for this couple being their daughter Elizabeth bap 24 Nov 1738 at Church Pulverbach.

The most suitable marriage that 'fits' bar one element being Richard PERKINS parish is stated as Parish of Powderbach.  This is the marriage between Richard PERKINS & Sarah RAWLINS at Meole Brace by licence 7 Jan 1737 as per the clipping below.

I am unable to locate a Parish of Powderbach and I wonder if the minister misunderstood or the incorrect parish was subsequently recorded after the event?

Quote
" CONDOVER, a hundred in the middle division of the county of Salop. It is divided into the Condover and Cound divisions; the former containing the parishes of Condover, Church Pulverbatch, Frodesley, Leebotwood Longnor, Smethcott, Stapleton, Sutton Woolstaston, and parts of St. Chad, St. Julian, and Meole-Brace; the latter division containing the parishes of Acton-Burnell, Berrington, Cound, Harley, Kenley Pitchford, and Church-Preen. The two divisions comprise about 42,840 acres, part of which is hilly."

Sorry - misread the mention of Pulverbatch.  I think it is most likely a misspelling/interpretation.

There are two possible baptisms for a Richard Perkin in Church Pulverbatch - 1709 (to Richard and Margaret) and 1716 (to Thomas and Margaret)
