Strickland Haulage Company Cheltenham
« on: Thursday 23 January 20 12:24 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if Strickland Haulage Company - owner - Frank Strickland, of Thirlwood, All Saints Villas-road, Cheltenham is still operating. Last I found was circa 1945 ( probate record) I have contacted Road Haulage Ass - no luck there.
Any suggestions of where I might look would be appreciated.
Thank you.

All road haulage companies were nationalised in 1948, so the original company wii not be around now.

There is a Public Members Tree on Ancestry - which includes Frank's WW1 record.

He married Ethelinds KNIGHT - 1915 - in Cheltenham.

One daughter moved to NEW YORK - hence the Travel to New York.

The surname Strickland goes back to the 1100’s around what is now South Cumbria.

Ancestral home is Sizergh Castle and the Strickland name continued there until fairly recently, the NT now has the Castle and grounds.

If you go back far enough and find a link to them then a whole new world will open up.

Hello.  Small world- just happened upon this post.  Frank Strickland was my grandfather.  He and his wife Ethelinda had three daughters, Babara, Lillian and Doreen.  Doreen was my mother who they came to visit in NY just after my birth (1950).  Lillian moved to Canada.  I don't have my genealogy records with me but I believe Frank died around 1956 leaving Strickland Stone Company to be run by Barbara.  I know Barbara was still running the company in the 70's because, on a whim, I asked her for a job.  I believe she died in 1978 and I have her will which, if I remember right, mentions the Stone Company.  I've asked my son to look for it.  Unfortunately I've been in Thailand for three years (traveling light).  I'll post again when I have more info or you can contact me.
