What happened to John BELLENger/BALLENGER/BALLINGER
« on: Wednesday 29 January 20 11:00 GMT (UK) »
John BELLENGER was born in Down Ampney in 1808, the eldest son of William Ballenger and Dinah Cuss. He was baptised at All Saints in Down Ampney on 08 Aug 1808.

On 29 May 1830, he married Elizabeth PAISH at St John the Baptist in Latton, Wiltshire. He was a bachelor and she was a spinster, both were of full age and both were resident in Latton.

In 1831, according to the 1842 removal document, the family were removed from Latton to Wickwar.

The 1841 census finds the family in South Cerney in Gloucestershire. John is aged 30 and a labourer, whilst Elizabeth is also 30. They have 6 children: John (10), Rosana (8), William (6), Sarah (5), George (2) and Henry (6m). This is the last record I have of John.

On 05 Dec 1842 Elizabeth and her 6 children were removed from South Cerney to Wickwar, the last legal settlement of her husband, who had some time deserted her.

In the 1851 census, Elizabeth was living in Wickwar, she was in receipt of parish relief and declared herself a widow.
It is unclear whether this means that John was actually dead or was simply a consequence of his desertion.

Then on 27 Jan 1861, Elizabeth remarries to Charles TANNER in Wickwar as a widow. She died in Wickwar in 1865.

I would greatly like to know what happened to John Bellenger (var sp) after 1841, but can't find any trace of him or his death in the records.
