Oops! yes you are correct. It was 17 April 1914.

He was in receipt of the Territorial Force War medal so he would have signed up in April 1914 as a part time soldier.

The army recorded his age on discharge in September 1918 as 22 so he must have lied about his age when attesting. The minimum age for the Territorial Force was 17.

Thanks for that, Shaun.
I did some reading up on the reason for his discharge. Looks like it could have been 'shell shock'.

Hi Shaun. Do you know if it's possible to contribute to the site, ie add information, photos, etc. to a particular individual.

No longer I'm afraid. The Lives of the First World War project ran from 12 May 2014 to 19 March 2019 and is now closed. The IWM will not accept any more contributions.

There are other sites you can contribute to - see for instance  http://www.ww1photos.com/SuffolkRegt.html and

Now that's something new!  I know he was honourably discharged on medical grounds and was awarded the silver badge so that ties in nicely.
Many thanks for that, Alan.
Regards  David.
