Hi Barbie

Just to clarify, you're saying that the death ref that Mackha found below is NOT your Christopher?

Deaths Mar 1952   (>99%)
SMITH    Christopher    62    Darlington    1a   230

So we're looking for a Christopher Smith, son of William Smith, aged 27 in 1921 as per the marriage certificate?

I wonder if this could be him in the 1901, born Coxhoe, Durham, son of William - I mentioned this as a possibility in an earlier post here:

Christopher Smith
Age:   7
Est birth year 1894
Son
Male
Father:   William Smith
Mother:   Elizabeth Smith
Birth Place:   Coxhoe, Durham, England
Civil Parish:   Darlington

Reg district:   Darlington
Sub-reg district:   Darlington
ED, institution, or vessel:   11

Piece:   4616
Folio:   87
Pg No:   18
Schedule no:   96

Name   Age
William Smith   48
Elizabeth Smith   41
John William Smith   18
Christopher Smith   7
John Smith   4

This would match an age 27 in 1921

Father William a general labourer, born Bedale, Yorks.
Pay, Kent.
Barham, Kent.
Cork(e), Kent.
Cooley, Kent.
Barwell, Rutland/Northants/Greenwich.
Cotterill, Derbys.
Van Steenhoven/Steenhoven/Hoven, Nord Brabant/Belgium/East London.
Kesneer Belgium/East London
Burton, East London.
Barlow, East London
Wayling, East London
Wade, Greenwich/Brightlingsea, Essex.
Thorpe, Brightlingsea, Essex

SMITH, CHRISTOPHER       Mother's Maiden name SMITH
GRO Reference: 1893  D Quarter in DURHAM  Volume 10A  Page 404

Coxhoe falls in Durham Registration district.

This could possibly be his brother John as shown in the census, although he's shown as 4 there, and this would make him three at the census date.

SMITH, JOHN  WILLIAM     SMITH
GRO Reference: 1898  J Quarter in DURHAM  Volume 10A  Page 395

If so, I must own to a sigh of despair at his mother's maiden name.

Added:
there's another John William Smith in that 1901 census, shown as son and born c 1883 in Stockton.
And there's a possible birth reg for him here:
SMITH, JOHN  WILLIAM     SMITH
GRO Reference: 1883  M Quarter in STOCKTON  Volume 10A  Page 72

Not quite sure why they would have two sons called John William - one known as John and the other as William?

In 1939 Christopher and Mary Ellen were at 237 Longfield Road Darlington - Christopher was born 14th October 1890 and Mary Ellen on 15th June 1899.

Can you please give us all the information you were given about that 1952 death?

We have our Christopher Smith as 1895, so am I looking at wrong Christopher Smith?????
That info u sent is correct.
Lady in darlington borough council looked Christopher Smith up on there death records and she informed me today that he is not my grandad as it list his/her spouse and Mary Ellen Smith is not on.
It's a mystery as I was hoping that was him

I went back on ancestry and put in Christopher Smith and found 6 death dates
1943, 1949, 1937, 2 in 1956, 1973,
My dad was born in 1934 n his sister were born 1936 and 1939, so he would have died some time after that,
My sister said he died in war but that doesnt make sense as you all found my uncle in 1939

on Freebmd.org.uk you can see how old they were

1956 both Christopher J.   one 67 so born abt 1889
the other 82 so born about 1874

1952 The one we already looked at born about 1890  & ruled out
1943 78 so born about 1865

1973 one is hiding

so does that leave only the 1956 one?
