Hi
Christopher Smith and Mary Ellen Shipton lived in Darlington.
Christopher was married before he married Mary in 1921
Christopher's dad was called William Smith and Mary Ellen's dad was called Jack Shipton

On their marriage certificate, which is on someone's tree on Ancestry, there is no father named for Mary Ellen
So likely she is illegitimate and her father is not Jack Shipton.

William Smith given as deceased.
The tree has a family for Christopher but his age in the 1891 census is 7 not 11 so am doubtful of its veracity.

It all came from ancestry.

Yes that's right. But what happened to them??
It's like finding a needle in a haystack

Mary Ellen's birth:

SHIPTON, MARY  ELLEN     Mother's maiden name blank-
GRO Reference: 1899  S Quarter in DARLINGTON  Volume 10A  Page 10

I think Mckha is right and Mary Ellen was illegitimate.

Trees on Ancestry aren't to be relied on unless you can see the sources, the evidence, that what they say is correct.  So good to look at, but always check yourself.

Here's Mary Ellen's baptism

Mary Ellen Shipton

Birth 15 Jun 1899
Baptism 9 Jul 1899
Baptism Place:   St. Hildas, Darlington, Durham, England
Mother:   Elizabeth Shipton
FHL Film Number:   1894192
Reference ID:   p 11

So her mother was Elizabeth Shipton, who may be the Lizzie Ann McCullagh on the 1911 Census, if she married after Mary Ellen's birth and then had more children...
