Maria Crockett/Moir and William Sinclair did they go to America?
« on: Sunday 02 February 20 18:40 GMT (UK) »
Maria Crockett was born c 1847 in Kincardineshire Scotland and married John Moir there in 1864.
They had one son James .

In 1886 Maria married William Sinclair born in 1856 in Orphir Orkney I have them on the 1891 census living in Glasgow but can't find them after that. There is a possibility they may have gone to America according to family stories but where and when no one knows.

Any help appreciated .

1936 she travels to New York on the Queen Mary next of kin Mr and Mrs J Moir meeting a friend Sarah Holman, 228 Harrison Avenue, Mineola NY.
She is back in England for the 1939 register.

There is another trip to South Africa 1949 but I'm not sure its the same woman.

Thank you both for all this information.

I think you have cracked it Sandra- William Sinclair was the son of Robert Sinclair and Ann Clouston and it looks like the  old Scottish naming practice has been followed when naming his son,.William had many occupations over the years .
The ages for Maria and him are spot on she was born in 1847 and he in 1856.
Thank you both again.
