Have you ever followed up on why George Lamont Horn was known as Mitchell (newspaper report in the bigamy trial)

.possibilities

1. He died young and Mr Mitchell obtained his birth cert and stuck with that identity for rest of life.
2. Violet put him in a home.    You would expect to see him on the 1911
3. He was ‘adopted’ by the Mitchell family, and then reverted to his real name. In which case, should be on 1911 as Mitchell.

Never worked out why he used the name Mitchell. I assumed because of the case and because they were breaking the law, it was just a fake name used. The marriage in 1933 was nullified. Basically they lied on everything!
He is Horn on everything else. I am a Horn, so is my father, my Grandfather and when they 'remarried' properly, they use Horn and all other information on that certificate adds up.

Thank you so much avm228 for finding that information! None of those names ring a bell and I haven't seen them pop up anywhere before. I wonder how long they were there for or, if Violet was also lodging from them, if they had previously had other boarders.

I attempted to go down the route of him being adopted and/or whether George had been put into a home. Honestly, I didn't know quite know where to look, but wherever I tried, nothing showed up.
I've also tried checking all relatives on the 1911 census and didn't find George staying with any of them.

I'll try checking the address a few years later.

Is Lamont a name from Violet's family? If not that might give a clue to George's real father. There's a Lamont family living in Clifton Road just round the corner from Upper grove
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Is that George’s daughter who marries in Hove, 1952?

What was George’s occupation on marriage?

See also the Croydon + South Norwood directories on ancestry. Samuel Crisp indexed in 1905.

Lamont has never shown up anywhere. I managed to do quite a bit of research on Violet's side but Lamont hasn't appeared yet.

George had three children. One of which is his (my grandfather), one that isn't his and one that I'm not too sure on.

I researched the Crisp family in 1911, and they are in the same area but at a different address. Nothing stood out at all.
Chas Cooper also appears with his own family in 1911.

I'm keen to know more about the Lamont family around the corner. Violet's family often used the maiden names/surnames as middle names.

There is a name that keeps popping up on DNA matches and their trees. Everyone that I cannot work out where we match has the same ancestor that pops up time and time again - William Boxall.
He was born in 1867. Compared to Violet's birth year of 1872, could this be the guy I'm hunting for?
The trees all say he was born in Kirdford, Sussex.
