I am looking for birth details/parents of a Hugh HUNTER b c 1830 Dalry, Ayr, Scotland.
Source: The NZ Militia, Volunteers & Armed Constabulary database held at the Auckland City Library.

This record states that his Militia Service commenced from 20 January 1864, Regimental No 41, 4th Waikato Regiment.  Joined at Melbourne, Australia.  Land Grant Hamilton West 167.

Hugh Hunter married in 1853 to Ellen Moroney at Melbourne, Australia.  They had the following children born in Victoria, Australia:

Mary Ellen Hunter b 1860, Geelong, Victoria

Hugh Hunter, his wife and 4 children arrived in Auckland, New Zealand on 5 February 1864 from Melbourne, Australia on the ship "Swiftsure".  They were military settlers.

Any assistance with birth details/parents of Hugh Hunter b 1830 appreciated.

Just found on convictrecords.com.au/hunter/hugh/23440
a record for a Hugh Hunter who was transported on the "Maitland" on 22 June 1846, arriving Port Phillip, Australia on 27 October 1846.
Hugh Hunter was convicted at the Justiciary, Glasgow Court of Scotland.  Crime not stated.  Sentence 7 years.
He was 1 of 299 convicts.

The cemetery inscription says Hugh was the eldest son of James.
