ShaunJ, The same auctioneer was executor to the Knott family I believe, also I was born in Albert Street in 1939. Robert A Hayes also lived in Albert Street and I remember him as a retired mariner living a few doors away from my grandparents and he was a witness at my parents wedding. Small world.

Robt Payne age 19 in 1841, Mariner, may have married age 45, Bachelor, Occp Sailor, Father ROBERT a Sailor

Marriage 05 Sep 1867 Spalding (FreeREG)

JOHN/SUSANNAH Payne Bapt a Son ROBERT 26 Sep 1831 but cant find a Burial for him.

I have found a Robert Payne Master Mariner living at 14, Holbeach Road, Spalding in a 1872 Directory but does not say if he is married etc.

Look at the Marriage, (off hand cant remember Wifes name) and see if you can find ?  Payne, Mariners Wife in 1871/1881 Census.

OK, found them in 1871, Master Mariner, but he is born c 1823 Tollesbury Essex :-\
