DNA shared with a half-great-aunt

Hello,

You are supposed to inherit 25% of your genes from a grandparent. If a grandparent had a half-sibling, would you share 12.5% of DNA? And what would this equate to in terms of centimorgans? What might this relationship be confused as being in terms of cousins?

I’d appreciate any help!

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

Average amount shared with a half great aunt/uncle is 432 cM. It gives you the range too.
