Just a thought -

James Buchan is not shown on the 1939 Register - could it be that he was in the Armed Forces?  If so then perhaps he died whilst on active service, and his death would be registered under the Service records.

Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate for David Humphreys and Florence?

I found, David  William Humphrey . mmn Evans . GRO Reference: Jul-Sep 1911 . Carmarthen . Volume 11A . Page 2754.

I think I need to buy the marriage certificate.

David William Humphreys
Born   24/06/1911
Died 07/1981 Swansea West Glamorgan

Do you know why he is Humphrey at birth?   Registration error?

You may also, possibly, have to purchase the will of Martha Jane Evans in 1941 - at least that is cheaper at £1.50 - to help in this conundrum.

I don't know why he was Humphrey at birth, then Humphreys later.
Any marriage to him must have been before Buchan in 1941.
There is one in Carmarthen in 1929.
It seems likely, the child Florence E Williams born 1928 was her child with mmn Williams
There is a marriage 20 years later for a Florence E Williams to Frank K Payne . Carmarthen . Oct-Dec 1949 . Volume: 8A . Page: 441 . Line: 45
She must be one of the closed records.
Florence Edith Buchan died 10.09.78 . Aged 66.
Also being told David W Humphreys is living with someone else, not called Florence, in 1939, makes me think divorce.
I will order the marriage certificate, but feel it may be another Florence Williams with the E missing which appears elewhere. His name is in full. I will also buy the will of Martha Jane Evans. The bit I do not understand is why the probate was in Oxford.

The probate can be anywhere in the country, depends where the person sorting out the will lives.
