Looking for a miracle
« on: Sunday 16 February 20 13:40 GMT (UK) »
George Coole born 1759 (c) married Elizabeth Austin in 1779 Bristol. Son George 1775 (c)-1828.

Not sure where George senior was born, several family trees on ancestry have contacted them its either they cannot remember where the information came from or they copied from another tree.

George may of born in Bristol, a elderly Aunt said the Coole family came from Northern Ireland but can no information or when?

Any help would be wonderful

When he married 1779 he was of Bitton Gloucestershire, Elizabeth Austins was of Bristol by license
neither could write.

You have son George born 1775 four years before marriage was he from a previous marriage?

The trouble is I do not know, dates could be wrong.  I have certificates etc going back to John Coole born 1804 Bristol, he married Elinor Beynon in 1839 father George Coole (soap boiler) John signed his name but with Eleanor a x.  I contacted the Bristol family history many years ago they gave me information on George regarding a marriage in 1804 to Hannah Milsom.  So it is possible that George and Elizabeth were not George's parents.  The trouble being the surname "Coole" various from Cool, Cools (on the 1851 census) Cole Cooley etc.  There are quite alot of baptisms for a George Coole for example this baptism
Name George Cool
Male
Age 0
Birth date 1779
Baptism date 1 Nov 1779
Baptism place Hanham Abbots St George
Reg type Parish Register
Father Thomas Cool
Mother Betty Cool"

I have keep this record as a possibility but just not sure.

Thank you for your reply and I think it will be a miracle to sort this out.

Hi Helina,

Is George or John your direct ancestor?
Could you please list all you know about the last person you are sure of in your tree (is that John b1804, married 1839)

Both,  Yes John born 1804, have his death certificate and found a baptism for John dated 2 Oct 1804 father's name George and Mother's name Hannah.

Does the Gloucestershire archives have a probate record or a will for George Coole the soap boiler, even if he was not a wealthy man he had property for his business to hand down.

Did John become a soap boiler as well.

Try the Gloucestershire Family History Society

John in a way yes he was a candle maker for awhile.

The records for Bristol and South Gloucestershire are with the Bristol Archives I believe but I'll try Gloucester.

Since the last message/reply I have been searching ancestry/ Familysearch and FindMyPast. What is interesting came across a baptism for a George Cool on familysearch.
" George Cool Bristol, christening date 01 Nov 1780, christening place Bitton Father's name Thomas Cool, Mother's name Betty"

This information seems more sense able to me, the George on ancestry trees was born in 1859, can find no baptisms for him but all his siblings (if Thomas and Betty were his parents) I have had no problem finding their baptisms until I came across the 1780 baptism.  So is it possible that George b 1759 was a older brother who married Elizabeth Austin in 1779 and then died? or for some reason George was not baptized until 1780 a year after his marriage?

If the George b 1780 is my George, George Coole and Elizabeth Austin are not his parents.

Any ideas
