Death record - Kenneth COURTNEY
« on: Thursday 20 February 20 03:37 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to track down the death of Mansell Claude Kenneth COURTNEY, b 1913 in England.

The last known address I have for him is from the Feb 1960 probate of his mother's will, when Kenneth (this was the name he went by) was a photographer, living at 31 Byefield Park, Mayfield, Cork.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can search to find a death record for him, please? This is the first time I have had to search within Ireland for anything, so I really have no idea where to start.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Yvonne (Australia)

Looking in the Newspapers there was still Courtneys at that address up 2011.

His son Kenneth died with that address in 1953

Thank you for looking that up for me, Sinann.

I had no idea that he had another family over there. It will be interesting to see if his daughter from his first marriage was aware.

Gosh, I didn't realise you were still on the job :)

I will email my cousin tomorrow with all these updates, which I expect will surprise her.

Is it possible to order online death certificates that are more recent than the site you linked my to earlier, or do I need to have an actual death date rather than just a year?

Also, do you know which newspapers would have covered this area?

I was sending a PM as you typed
The deaths only go to 1969 at the moment https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/what-years-are-covered-by-the-historic-records-of-births-marriages-and-deaths
It might be possible to find a marriage though.

If he was a photographer at Blarney Castle that he was likely the guy taking the photos of people kissing the Blarney Stone.

A possible burial place is St.Catherine's Kilcully https://goo.gl/maps/Z2WE6ZC7VzYuMMmg9 which appears to have little or nothing in the way of online headstone images.
The Anglo Celt where I found the obit for Joan is a once a week paper, the main Cork paper the Evening Echo doesn't have any 1998 coverage on Irish Newspapers Archive, and she doesn't appear to be in the Independent, the Sunday Independent or the Evening Herald.

Thank you very much for all your help, Sinann.

I will take out a month's subscription to the Irish Newspaper Archives and see what else I can find - it certainly helps to now know which newspapers covered the area.

Kenneth's daughter from his first marriage is excited by what we are finding, which is lovely.

Best wishes,

Yvonne
