help please with Kirkburton records
« on: Friday 21 February 20 20:14 GMT (UK) »
Please can anyone help?
I know that Ellen, the bastard daughter of Sarah Hirst of Lumhouse (William Copley of Grange reputed father)  was baptised on 24/10/1773 at Kirkburton.
Please, can anyone find a suitable burial, either under the name of Hirst or Copley, (or a marriage) for her?
I'd be very grateful for any help,
Thanks,
Kit

By the way the entry above Sarah on the OPR is for a Hannah Hirst a baptism of her daughter the record is a bit unclear.

No deaths by the Hirst/Copley names but I did find a marriage?

A Ellen Hirst married a George Ashton 15 Nov 1810 Mirfield, St Mary, one of the witnesses could be David Hirst?

Children Josh & Mary  baptised there 10 Feb 1812 only father noted.

Others note mother as Ellen – Hannah 1814, Elizabeth 1817  & John 1823

George noted as a Coalminer abode Nick House.

Is this the witness I wonder?
David Hirst   Baptism   18 Jun 1765   Kirkburton , All Hallows   John

There were a number of John Hirst’s father John born Kirkburton in the 1750s, maybe he was a brother of Sarah below?

Sarah Hirst   Baptism   24 Feb 1750   Kirkburton , All Hallows   John

Thanks very much for that Colin.
This one is proving a difficult nut to crack as the surnames Hirst and Copley are so common!
But it was kind of you to help,
Kit
