Place of birth: Ramelton  - so this may be somewhere to look?

Ramelton is in County Donegal (West of Londonderry/Derry)

PRONI has copies of Ramelton Church registers going back to the early 1800s so it is possible they may be able to find a record of Hugh's baptism.  If people aren't able to visit the records in person, for a fee, they'll do searches and send you copies of records:
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/proni-enquiry-service

The references you may need are:
MIC1P/142 for Ramelton 1st Presbyterian Church records 1806-1907 (this includes baptisms from 1806)

MIC1P/210/1 for Ramelton 2nd Presbyterian Church records Register of baptisms 1808-1911

PRONI also holds Catholic records for this area (Diocese of Raphoe) and the reference for these is MIC1D/85.

Methodist records for this area seem to have started around 1829, which would be too late for Hugh's birth.

Church of Ireland records for this area include: Tullyaughnish baptisms from 1798 and copies are in the RCB Library in Dublin - search requests if people can't attend in person can be requested here: https://store.ireland.anglican.org/genealogy

Many Thanks to all who have helped. So much information and i thought Irish research was hard.
Well it is with my family but if i volunteer to help others it seems easy.

I have found the grave on Find a Grave. So many more family names.
I just need to see my friend and find out how far back they want to go back.

Once again Thank You all.
You have been a great help

A very grateful Carol

Ive just had a look at the marriage transcription via a sub with Rootsireland.

The marriage was in Tullyaughnish.( Ramelton) 22 Jun 1843.

It states that David Stevenson lived in Londonderry and the bride, Ellen Elleson was in Ramelton.
They have married in the bride's home parish
Church Of Ireland marriage

(Not really relevant but my entire maternal ancestry lies in Ramelton. My mum was born there)

EDIT:
There was another marriage in Tullyaughnish in 1852, this time for Isabella Ellison of Ramelton  who married Robert Curtis.

May be worth checking but, Isabella's father was a farmer named Samuel Ellison

However, sometimes there are errors with plots references so it's also a good idea to do surname search which might pick up others there.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Carol
Are you still trying to trace the family of David Stevenson of The Diamond, Londonderry, and Ellen Matilda Ellison, his wife?
I am a direct descendant of this couple and have extensive information about their family.
