McIntyre/ Cameron Marriage 1845
« on: Friday 28 February 20 11:04 GMT (UK) »
New to this site, hello all!

Daniel McIntyre (born abt 1823, Scotland-died 2 June 1880 Northumberland, Pennsylvania, USA)
and
Catharine Cameron (b. 22 Oct 1822, Lanarkshire, Scotland- d. 10 Oct 1925, Northumberland, PA, USA)
Married in Airdrie/New Monklands, Lanarkshire on July 18, 1845.
(Unable to attach photo of marriage certificate due to size reatrictions)

Immigration date/details unknown
Several children-one possibly born in Scotland (Dougal McIntyre born 1846?)

Attached marriage certificate is all I have.....and I'm seeking to find:
1. At what church this marriage may have occurred (and if it is still standing?)
2. Any details on birth or immigration for either Daniel, Catharine, or son Dougal.

Happy to take any help/direction/guidance as I am searching from the USA and coming to Scotland this summer....it would be amazing to locate the church and visit the place of our 3rd great grandparents marriage!
Thanks, and blessings!
J

The record is on https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk does the certificate name the church?

DANIEL MCINTYRE   Married    CATHARINE CAMERON   00/06/1845   Airdrie or New Monkland

Only one birth on SP for Daniel in Lanarkshire but seven elsewhere 1820 - 1825

MCINTYRE   DANIEL JOHN MCINTYRE/ELISABETH MCFARLANE CHILD 5 00/02/1822   Barony, Lanarkshire

Only one record in Lanarkshire for Catherine which will be the baptism date so unlikely?

CAMERON   CATHARINE MCMIL??   ALLAN CAMERON/CATHARINE FLYN 19/05/1822   Airdrie or New Monkland

When did they emigrate?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

The wedding is unlikely to have been held in a church at all.

Until towards the end of the 19th century, weddings were most commonly held in the bride's home or, if she had no parents living or married a long way from home, in her employer's house or in the manse (the minister's house). See https://www.gla.ac.uk/schools/socialpolitical/research/economicsocialhistory/historymedicine/scottishwayofbirthanddeath/marriage/

The record you have found is the record of the payment made to New Monkland Parish Kirk to have the banns proclaimed from the pulpit during three services. There was no such thing as a 'marriage certificate' until the start of civil registration in 1855.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
