Hi ShaunJ,

Thankyou so much for the useful info.

I'm over the moon giving me John's birthplace, so i can try of going further back.

If you come across anything else, please send it my way. ;), especially coming across the marriage of John Tiffin and Ellen Bolan, there is a possibility Ellen may of been Irish.

Regards

Hi,

These give some info about the 77th regiment and might show why John was on the Isle of Wight in 1824,

Sun (London) 11 February 1824
The Depots of the 23d (Royal Welch Fusileers), the 77th (East Middlesex), and the 93rd (Highland) Regiments of Infantry have received orders to embark from Ireland, on board the Joseph Green transport for the Isle of Wight.

Hampshire Chronicle 08 March 1824
COWES - Part of the 77th regiment this week disembarked from the transport ship Joseph Bell, from Cork for Albany.

I also found this baptism for William, image 194 (which is page 189 of the booklet)

https://issuu.com/tcrs/docs/volume59

and this marriage, I can't see an image to see if it has been mistranscribed at Ancestry or FindMyPast.

John FIFTEN
Eleanor BOLAND
8 Feb 1818
Saint Munchin, Limerick , Ireland

Regards,
Daisy

Hi There,

Please can anyone point me in the right direction on regiments that were stationed at Newport on the Isle of Wight in 1824.

Kind Regards

I certainly had overlooked the possibility of the regiment having a small number of men there in their depot which Daisy's excellent find highlights.  Interesting that the historical record doesn't mention the move of the depot.

Hi,

I couldn't see it there either, it left me very confused ???

Today I've found that FindMyPast has an image of "Irish Parish Register Marriages, Ffolliott Collection" (it's just a typed list) that says ,

St Munchin's Parish
08 Feb 1818
FIFTEN John
&
BOLAND Eleanor of this Parish, by Banns, by me John DUDDELL

The Revd. John DUDDELL was the Rector of St Munchin's Church of Ireland church,

https://www.limerick.ie/sites/default/files/atoms/files/street_art_and_artefacts_limerick_city.pdf

So two St Munchin's, one Catholic and one Church of Ireland.   :o ::) ;D

Unfortunately it looks like the Church of Ireland images aren't online.

https://www.johngrenham.com/records/church.php?civilparishid=1627&civilparish=St%20Munchin&search_type=full

As their son William was baptised in a RC church I wonder why they married as COI, maybe it was because John wasn't Catholic :-\

I think I've found another child,

Roman Catholic
Parish:  St Mary's Cathedral,  Edinburgh,  Midlothian,  Scotland
Baptismal Register 1822
Born March 1st

Helen lawful daughter of John TIFFIN and Helen BOLAN born at Edinburgh the first of March was baptised my me on the tenth of the same month one thousand eight hundred and twenty two at the Roman Catholic Chapel. sponsors  John EDMONDS & Helen MARSHALL.   =  John BREMNER

This would fit with where the regiment was, as found in the archive records by ShaunJ.  :)
