Benjamin Waldram
« on: Friday 28 February 20 20:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I'm looking for the parents of Benjamin Waldram.
He marries Martha Turner 1671 Belton, Leicestershire.
Every tree on Ancestry has him as born in nearby Osgathorpe and son of Thomas Waldram, Esquire, of Charley, Leicestershire and Eleanor Knyvett, daughter of Sir Philip Knyvett, 1st Baronet of Buckenham, Norfolk.

As with most Ancestry trees, I myself, can find no record of Benjamins baptism to Thomas and Eleanor. Most people have taken it from an IGI and Familysearch but as far as I know, the Osgathorpe registers are not available.

Any help appreciated.

When you say that you believe the  Osgathorpe registers are not available - do you mean not available online, or not in existence?

FindMyPast have Osgathorpe in their list of Leicestershire parishes:

Baptisms, Marriages and Burials - 1578-1682
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hello
I forgot to mention that he is given as born 1650/1651, Osgathorpe.
I can only see one baptism for Thomas and Eleanor and that is a son Thomas bapt 1653 in Leicester St Martins.

Of the Osgathorpe original registers I can see, they seem to not have 1650 available so I'm not sure how they got the evidence that Benjamin was born in Osgathorpe. Baptisms start at 1680.

Not sure that the FindMyPast information is correct.   :-\

Leicestershire Records Office at Wigston have BMDs from 1683 in their catalogue.  Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on Church Register List to see the details.

I can see it gives Osgathorpe as starting 1683 (The original actually starts 1680 with baptisms)
I'm completely baffled how someone has thought Benjamin is the son of Thomas and Eleanor. The IGI on Familysearch is not even correct.

I've seen that thread but it doesnt shed more light on Benjamin.

I think its just a case of someone trying to tie into the Gentry without any evidence.

A will from Thomas Waldram/Waldron, Esquire, could shed light but I cant see one.
