Theophilus Pembleton
« on: Monday 02 March 20 18:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi - hopefully someone will read this & be able to help. I'm researching the Pembletons in my family tree. I've gone as far back as Theophilus Pembleton (my 4th great grandfather) marrying Mary Hervey in Papplewick, Nottinghamshire in 1799. However, I'm not sure who his parents were - James Pembleton & Mary Alsop  OR  Thomas Pendleton/Pembleton & Sarah Duffield?
Thanks

Hi 'Linda' -- A warm welcome to Rootschat.

What did Theopilus name his eldest son please? Sometimes an eldest son was named after the father's father.

(You are going to say it was neither James nor Thomas aren't you!!)
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Welcome Linda

Just having a look at my baptisms for Notts, have you come across a Samuel Pembleton married to Mary who in 1804 baptised his son Theophililus 1804 St Mary Magdalene, Hucknall Torkard?

Was hoping this might help with the potential parents you mention.

Hi
His eldest son was Samuel Pembleton 1800 - 1833. Theophilus' middle name may have been James. His father may have been James Pembleton, but not sure.

I always recommend cross-referencing and double-checking everything. Getting the actual docs is best if you can. Not always possible but you can use charts like that as a searching starting point.

Is this Theophilus in the 1841 census at "Daybrook", Arnold? (all born Nottinghamshire)

Theophelis Pembleton       66 (framework knitter?)
Mary Pembleton                 64
John Williamson                  20
Mary Williamson                21
Thomas Williamson            0
H0107/855/24 pg1

so born 1771-1775?

The name 'Theophilis' seems to have been quite popular at that time! Who would have thought there would be so many around the date of your Theophilis's birth.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with these locations - my initial thought would be to examine the Samuel and Mary parents found by Willsy -- but maybe the location is out of the question.

Thanks everyone.
Yes it is the Theophilus Pembleton as suggested by Maddy52. Can we be sure he was born in Nottinghamshire? If so, then it's more likely his parents were James Pembleton & Mary Alsop as they also came from Nottinghamshire, whereas Thomas Pendleton & Sarah Duffield were from Clay Cross/ North Wingfield in Derbyshire.

It is a shame he died prior to the 1851, however it does say born in County in 1841, so most likely he was born Nottinghamshire. But you can never be certain.  :-\

I assume this is his death, aged 70, June qtr 1846, Basford (15/281)
