Robert Spoors m. Sarah Gibson 1819

Hello all! Once more I find myself in need of your most marvelous help! I have found the marriage for Robert Spoors and Sarah Gibson on April 24, 1819 in Tynemouth, NBL. A source on Ancestry (I don't subscribe..) shows Robert Spoors born 1791 and died 1858 in Sunderland, Durham, I think. Sarah Gibson was born abt 1796 to Thomas Gibson (b. abt. 1776 in NBL) and Sarah Swallow b 13 Jan 1775 in Cullercoats, NBL.  My problem is trying to find Robert Spoors' parents; I can't seem to find him as a widower in 1851 when he is purportedly still alive, nor can I find a possible baptism for him. Can someone please tell me IF the wedding information might provide any clue as to Robert Spoors' parents?  Thank you kindly. Sincerely, patrexjax

An 1819 marriage is before civil registration so the record in the parish register is unlikely to provide information about parents.

Hello and thank you, Craclyn.  That was a true "grasping at straws" effort on my part!    I wonder if the 1851 census (if he really is still alive then!) might provide information as to where he was born and.or his occupation? I am wondering where the author of the Ancestry tree got their information that Robert Spoors' vital years were 1791-1858? True, I have found a Robert Spoors who died in 1851 in Sunderland in the freebmd indexes., which leads me to believe at least part of his vital information is correct. Thanks for your response. Hello Comberton! Thank you very much for your response AND the information you have provided. So, it appears this Robert Spoor would have been married prior to his marriage to Sarah Gibson.  I will look at my marriage indexes here at home for both Northumberland and County Durham to pursue that angle. Knowing that the Robert Spoor who died in 1858 at age 67 certainly tells me where his birth year of 1791 originates......Thanks so much for the additional information to fit into this jig-saw puzzle! That does look like him - Williams birth on the GRO gives mothers maiden surname - Gibson

Baptism at Penshaw:  Robert SPOUR baptised 13 Feb 1792 son of Thomas and Ann Spour of Fence House

Hello again Comberton! According to the Ancestry tree I saw, it related to a son, William Spoor b 27 July 1837 in Sunderland, Co Durham who died 1875 in NewCastle on Tyne, NBL. That particular William Spoor had, according to the tree, some six children. all of whom had the last name spelled with an "s" on the end:Sarah Spoors 1860-1933; George Bird Spoors 1861-1906;Robert Spoors 1864-1923; Jane Birf Spoors 1867-unk; William, Spoors 1870-1891 and Rachel Spoors 1872-unk.   So I don't think the census find is Robert Spoors (1791-1858 as it doesn't look like the children's birth years are correct. I hasten to add that I could be wrong about it, tho.  Also, I don't know about the accuracy of this Ancestry tree as I have NOT checked all of these children against freebmd or GRO yet.   EDIT - on second thought...I do think this is a VERY GOOD possibility..... forgive my senior moment! Also, let me add that think I found a first marriage for Robert Spoors on 10-24-1813  in Wallsend to a Martha Davison. It is the only one for a Robert in either County that could be possible as all others were after he married Sarah Gibson..... Thanks so much for your help. Sincerely, patrexjax
