Jessie, were Anna and Winifred still living with parents in 1911? Hard to find anything for them isn't it!

There is an online tree on a/try here www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/28678799/person/12079210056/facts  You need a subs to access  :-\ They have no more details on the immediate family than you have mentioned. Just curious that they have daughter Winifred's name as 'Private'.

From this, did James and Robert have a sister called Depressa Messiah Donaldson? What a unique name.

Yes they did -- the grandmother was born in Barbados and somehow arrived in Edinburgh and married

ended up living in the Leith area of the city

There is only one relevant entry for a Winifred Donaldson in the right age range in 1911...in Aberdeen.

She was living with her sister and her husband, a David Brydon, a theatrical musician. Entry for Anna looks like Laurence  (I did think this might be her middle name as her paternal grandmother was Laurence?).

Cannot see a marriage for David Brydon and Anna L though. Their entry showed them as married 5 years and with one child alive (who doesn't show on the entry).

I  looked at that last time I was in Edinburgh but run out of time to search for that marriage .

James Donaldson's mother's maiden name was Laurie Monica .She was Eliza Laurence Laurie .

Have you got an actual date of birth for Anna Laura/ence Donaldson in 1887?

From his 1911 entry, David Brydon looks to have been born c. 1886 in Selkirk. There is a corresponding entry for his birth I think on SP.

Wondering about this gravestone in Canada...

Could well be them  ::)

From the Canadian Voters Lists:

David Brydon
1935
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Winnipeg South Centre
Occupation: Musician

In 1940, David shows as a tobacconist.

In both entries, there is a wife referred to as Mrs David Brydon  (always so helpful  ::)). 1935 also shows a Miss Betty Brydon, 1940 shows a Miss Mary Brydon.
