Price family BRISTOL possible chink in a brick wall
« on: Tuesday 10 March 20 10:18 GMT (UK) »
I've been banging my head against this one for a few years....having trouble finding Mary Price's family of origin.

John Thomas Hooker
married Mary Price in 1844 St Mary Le Port, Bristol.
Her father was Edward Price, a labourer. Both gave their ages as Full. Mary signed X

Mary Price was born about 1822 in Bristol according to various census returns.

1851 the couple were living in Bristol. John Thomas Hooker was a marble mason. Mary's age was given as 29 and born Bristol Temple

1861 They were living Coram Place Bloomsbury. Mary's age was given as 38 born Bristol.

1871 They were living Caledonia street, Islington. Mary's age given as 48, born Jersey Channel Is.

Mary possibly died 1871, Islington.

I cannot find Mary on the 1841 census.

There is an Edward Price on the 1841 and 1851 who is the only one I can find in Bristol. He is a labourer. His wife is Margaret. They have children Eliza, Ellen, Rosana.

Could this be Mary's family?

Mary Price named children Margaret, Edward and Ellen.

This Edward Price appears to have married Margaret Hillary in 1855 in Bristol. On the marriage cert his occupation is Mason's labourer.

The couple also seem to have had a daughter, Margaret, who was baptized in 1823 in Ireland, which was after Mary was supposedly born in Bristol.

Edward and Margaret's daughter, Rosana, is possibly Rosina Price who married Daniel Moore in 1859, Bristol.

Any suggestions where to look for more leads that would tie Mary to this family or discount it?

Thank you

Ta

I don't know why they didn't marry until 1855. They baptised their daughter Margaret in Ireland in 1823 and it gives both their surnames. Edward Price died in 1856 so perhaps it was so Margaret could get his army pension

I've discover that Edward Price was living in Jersey in the 1820's.. so perhaps that's where Mary was born after all... as per the 1871 census?

Lucky to find Catholic baptisms and one of Mary's children had her sister and brother in law as godparents. And lots of first names in common between the families. Mary's father worked in the same profession as her husband.

Excellent.

(Thank you for that)
