Knowles - William or Gulielmi
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 23:42 BST (UK) »
Can someone help me?

I found the following two names in the IGI in the 1660/70's at Great Budworth.

Is one just the Latin name of the other?

Guilielmi begats a Margareta

William begats a Sarah.

Do you think they are sisters of a common father - William?

Hi Paul

There are several differant Latin spellings of the name
Guglielmus, Gulielmus, Guilhelmus, Gulielmo, Gulielmum, but they all mean William

Whether they are sisters or not have not got a clue, but looks likely.
