Thanks you very much for that information dydo.  I think I eventually found out  that there were two Dalbeths, and what I would give to be able to dig around in the old one!

Thanks again,

Nina

I am searching for Conaghan ancestors and visited Dalbeth Cemetery yesterday 14/10/07. I found 2 that I was looking for in Dalbeth and then climbed over the wall to look in Old Dalbeth. A lot of the graves in this area are destroyed but  the good news is that the council have started to clear the area. There are no trees left and all the brambles and nettles are away  but most of the gravestones are lying broken. There are maybe 25-30 stones still standing in one piece  and I don't know what the plans are for the area. Because it was sunday there was no-one available to speak to but we are hoping to go back on friday to find out more when the groundstaff are there.

I went to the Mitchell Library two weeks ago to look for the burial place of my grandmother who died in 1922 aged 22 eventually the woman suggested I look in the burial records for St. Peters which I did but still found nothing so she went and got the microfiche with the burial records in common ground within St. Peters and my grandmother was there. There is no way of finding the exact place of burial, the woman said they would only be able to show me the general area so I wrote to the Archdiocese to see if they had records that give a more detailed record of the burial (I emailed the archivist) but I never received a reply. So if anyone is looking at the records for St. Peters and don't find what they are looking for try the burials in common ground and you might just be lucky.

Hi:
Dalbeth Cemetery is also called St. Peters, London Road,
Glasgow. I was searching for the lair where my sister was buried and was in touch with the Archdiocese of Glasgow a very helpful staff member gave me the location of the lair.
The staff at the cemetery were also very helpful in helping me locate the lair number.

I'm hoping to visit Dalbeth when I next get back home to Scotland, but I searched for it using Google Earth.
If you don't have this program installed, then you need to!
It's brilliant... I can see your headstone from up here :-)

Anyways I think I found the cemetery at:
 55°50'20.13"N
  4°11'13.55"W

If someone has Google Earth installed can they verify it please?

Jim

That's the one. As you can see it is huge. I went there a while back and never checked the records before hand which is not a good idea. Although we found one grave we couldn't find the other despite the fact my dad had been at both interments. It is that big that you would need more than a day to get around them all.

Looking for Hugh Marr and Mary Drummond.
