Morton Rolwes - School Master

Morton Rowles was born on Friday, 6th July 1883 at Tardebigge, Tutnall & Cobley, Bromsgrove the only child of Frank and Elizabeth Rowles (née Browning), a ‘Bargeman’ of Tutnall & Cobley.

The village of Tardebigge is most famous for the Tardebigge Locks, a flight of 36 canal locks that raise the Worcester and Birmingham Canal over 220 feet over the Lickey Ridge.

In the 1911 census he is age 27 and gives his occupation as ‘Assistant School Master’.
He is living with his widowed father, Frank, at Tardebigge, Bromsgrove.

He enlisted in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment on 30th September 1913, and gave his address as  New Wharf, Tardbigge, Bromsgrove. He served at home during the War.
He is listed as being a ‘Teacher’. He was discharged on 10th January 1919.
His papers tell us that he had poor vision caused by Influenza as a child and that his military character was ‘Very Good’. He is listed as ‘Home Service’ only and was awarded no medals.

He married Marion Nellie Mason on 1st January 1916 at The Parish Church, Bidford, Warwickshire. His occupation is given as ‘School Master’ now serving as a soldier. They had 2 daughters.
Marion Nellie died on 13th June 1983 at Manor Heath, Knowle Hill, Woking, age 93.

In the ‘1939 Register’ he is living in The School House, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.
His occupation is given as ‘Head School Master’.

He died on Wednesday, 23rd December 1959 at Southcote Horsell, near Woking, Surrey, age 75.

I think you will find that 'Southcote'  was the name of a house not a street/area. 

If it was Horsell then I suggest you try St Marys, Horsell or alternatively Woking crematorium. 

Local newspapers were Woking News & Mail, Woking Herald and Surrey Advertiser

Southcote was in Church Road, Horsell - just a short walk from the church

Ancestry has burial registers for St Mary's Horsell for that date.
