George Vesey Stewart's Settlement.
« on: Sunday 29 March 20 20:01 BST (UK) »
Hi.

Am trying to find details of the people chosen to qualify for this Settlement with regards to their home addresses in Ireland at time they applied!

e.g.  people on https://www.sooty.nz/carisbrook.html.

Are there any details for these people before they arrived? I'm trying to find if they were local to the Stewart's home place in Ireland or not.

Thank you.

Yes I know about the Stewarts, I know about the Veseys etc... Bishops et all

It is the "commoners" that I was trying to find out about!

I'm trying to find if they were local to the Stewart's home place in Ireland or not.

Don't want/need anything on the Stewarts/Veseys.

Have done Googling and can find nothing on where the chosen settlers came from in Ireland.... don't need anything after they landed in N.Z.

I don't need to know who owned the Caribrooke Castle or births onboard.....

just if there are any records of where the "selected ones" came from in Ireland

From one of the links I posted above

After the success of these two settlements, Stewart decided to organise a third, this time at Te Puke, and despite competition he was allocated the land he wanted. This party, drawn from all over the British Isles, was the first to sail directly to Tauranga, where the Lady Jocelyn arrived on 2 January 1881.

Cheers Janette

There are some references to George Vesey Stewart in Archives:

https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/SimpleSearchResults.do

However that is probably not what you want.

Using the names to be found on the Shipping list of the Carisbrook Castle, would not the information you require to be found back in Ireland? Rather than in New Zealand?

Do you have access to the Irish newspapers?

Minniehaha.

Unfortunately not.

He got funded to ring people to N.Z. and would have needed to lodge details about them 'somewhere'...

I am hoping he may have lodged them with Authorities when he landed N.Z. upon completion of vogage of the Carisbrooke Castle.
