There is a record on FreeReg for the baptism oh Harriet in 1840 as Keybaord said.

FreeReg has a record of a marriage on 1st March 1864 at St John the Evangelist, Spittlegate- to Joh Harrisson. Harriet was 24, her father`s name given as Charles Evans.

Spittlegate fits in with the 1871 census, can be found on FreeCen. Harriet`s birthplace listed as Donnington, Jane Evans` listed as Spittlegate !!

I have to admit to being a bit confused though, as you oriiginally said John and Harriet married 1841.


PS: Just taken a look at the 1861 and there is a Spittlegate mentioned as birthplace of daughter of the family. Google says Spittlegate part of Grantham

Hannah Evans aged 4 was buried 2nd November 1841 Donnington in Holland
In 1851 along with Harriet in the Workhouse are Jane 68 Widow and Jane 33 Unmarried

Hi magicnanny, I would suggest that Harriet made the name up of her father, to cover up the fact she was born to Jane a single woman, ie Illegitimate?
