William Batterson
« on: Thursday 02 April 20 10:54 BST (UK) »
In 1841 William Batterson (Farmer) was living in Impington with his wife Ann and their family.
They were living at Hoggs Hall, Impington in 1851.

Can anyone see the marriage between William Batterson and Ann?

William and Ann had about seven children, all baptised in Impington.
A Henry Batterson married Edith Barker in 1808 (Impington).
One of William and Ann's children, Ephraim, had a middle name of  Barker. ??
Is there a connection between William and Henry?

Thank you. What is odd is that I searched for William in Impington (plus 5 miles radius) and found nothing. When I searched for him in Histon (which is less than a mile from Impington) I found him. That's FindMyPast for you .... I should have known better.

So I guess that Ann Barker and Edith ( Henry's wife) could be  sisters.

FreeREG has the childrens Bapts in Impington but with a large gap;
Sarah 1808
Ephraim Barker 1815
Anne 1815 age 2 and a half
William 1817
Charlotte 1819
Susanna 1821
Alfred 1823
Henry 1826 born 1825

F/S has a Sarah to them 1811 Histon, so Sarah 1808 must have died

1851 Census they also have a Daug Elizabeth c 1816

I cant find a Bapt for William c 1780 Caldcott as per 1851 Census (I presume Caldecote)

3 Burials there though possible Parents;
MARY Batterson 03 Jun 1819 age 64 (1755)
MARY Batterson 3 Jun 1820 age 64 (1756)
26 Nov 1823 WILLIAM Batterson age 70 (1753)

Also on Familysearch

Baptisms Histon
ANN Barker 10 Nov 1782**
EDY Barker (female)    27 Jan 1788***
+ several others siblings including;
Rushforth 1771
William 1774
Mary 1777
Ephraim 1779
Parents RUSHFORTH and MARY Barker

Rushforth Jnr likely married 5 Sep 1797 Cambridge, noted as a Groom of Histon (FreeREG)

Sorry if you already have all of this but the Boards are quiet so needed to use my brain a bit!

Trish :)

Trish

 FindMyPast is not working well and crashes frequently so I really appreciate your help.

The 1806 Enclosure Map shows Rushforth Barker owning just over 95 acres of land mainly in Impington.
Hoggs Hall, where William and Ann Batterson were living in 1851 was probably sited on his land, just off the road to Cambridge. (that's a guess) Maybe this was the home of Rushforth?
Empraim Batterson also lived at Hoggs Hall until 1881 and then Woodhouse Farm in 1891. Hoggs Hall was never mentioned again after 1881. The Batterson family lived at Woodhouse farm until 1925.
Woodhouse was built late 19th century and is on the land once owned by Rushforth Barker.
If Henry, who married Edith Barker was William's brother and Edith was Ann Barker's sister why was William a farmer living in Hoggs Hall and Henry was a farm labourer?
I wonder if Hoggs Hall was as grand as it sounds. Woodhouse farm was a very large farmhouse.

So, is Henry Batterson William's brother? And where were they born?

I cant tell you who William/Henrys Father was.

If you have FindMyPast (I dont) maybe look for a Will for William Batterson who died 1823. It may name his Sons/Daughters :)

I looked up William Batterson in probate and Wills and there was only one in 1860 , and he lived in Impington. Effects less than £300.

I guess that William Batterson (burial 1823) and Mary Batterson (burial 1819) were probably William's parents. I couldn't find a marriage.
